Mergers and Acquisitions Continue To Rise

The Association for Corporate Growth predicts that the strong merger and acquitions market will continue to rise into 2007. Mostly fueled by private equity firms.

“Nearly half of the 1,230 private equity professionals, investment bankers, corporate development professionals, lawyers, and accountants who responded to an ACG and Thomson Financial survey in December said they expect merger activity will increase in the next six months. Forty-one expect M&A activity to stay level, while only 9 percent say the pace will slow down.”

SBA 7a s Go Down SBA While SBA Express s Rise

The SBA 7(a) loan program, popular with those funding small businesses, may be headed towards a shutdown. The loans help people expand, acquire, or start a small business.

Right now the cap for a SBA 7(a) loan is $2 million. This year bills to up the limit to $3 million have been introduced in Congress and the Senate. Numbers of 7(a) loans have dropped 36% since 2002 in favor of smaller Community Express loans.

Today I had a potential borrower who wanted to buy out the note he had taken back when he bought out his partner 6 years ago. The note amount and financing would end up being approximately $1.2M but after I received more infomation on the deal there was some obsticles.
